The film has Mr. Bachchan playing Eklavya, a royal guard entrusted with the responsibility of protecting a royal bloodline. When Chopra began making the movie, he knew that the look of the protagonist of his movie had to be contemporary and yet have a touch of Indian tradition.
Being a perfectionist, Chopra tried to convince Mr. Bachchan to grow a real beard. However, Big B could not do that because he had other projects on hand too. So he sat through numerous sessions in which several beards were tried until the look of the character was finalized.
But this was just half the battle won. Then Chopra roped in fashion designer Raghuvendra Rathore (who comes from a royal family in Rajasthan) to work alongside his regular costume designer Subarna Rai Chaudhari to design the costumes and turban of Mr. Bachchan in the film.
Again, the designers had to toil until Chopra was satisfied with the final look.
Mr. Bachchan says the real joy of working with Vinod Chopra was the attention he pays to the minutest of details.
In fact, Chopra openly disagreed with Big B on certain issues. Amitabh says he loved that attitude.
