When Chopra was shooting for his film that stars mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan in the title role in Devigarh, Rajasthan, last year, he faced some trouble in getting some clearances from the local administration. 
Desperate to get on with the work, the filmmaker turned to BJP leader L K Advani. The latter put in a word with the BJP government in Rajasthan and things fell into line. Chopra and Advani have known each other since 1977. That year, as Union information and broadcasting minister in the Janata Party government led by Morarji Desai, Advani visited the Film and Television institute of India, Pune, to hand out awards to young talents. Chopra, who walked up to the dais to receive his award, candidly told the minister that it would have been better if he had received some cash to go with the award. Those were tough times financially for the young aspirant, and Advani, a lover of Hindi films, took a liking to the emerging talent. Thereafter, the director kept in tough with the leader, and their friendship grew. Late last year, Chopra organised a special screening of Lage Raho Munnabhai for Advani’s daughter Pratibha’s birthday. As Chopra was then busy shooting for ‘Eklavya’ in Rajasthan and could not make it to Delhi because of fog, he ensured that his brother Veer was present on the occasion, making the event more like a family gathering. Though the director had invited the BJP veteran to watch the premiere of ‘Eklavya’ in Mumbai on Thursday, the former deputy prime minister could not grant Chopra’s request as he was busy campaigning for the assembly election in Uttarakhand. A source in the party said that the former deputy Prime Minister is very keen to watch the film as soon as he is free from the rough and tumble of campaigning.
