An erotic thriller, a movie depicting the life of widows, and two patriotic flicks will hit the theatres on Friday.

Movie buffs will have ample variety to choose from this Friday. Four movies will be releasing on the day: Vikram Bhatt's 'Red', Deepa Mehta's 'Water', Raman Kumar's 'Sarhad Paar' and director Amrit Sagar's '1971'.

Red is a dark, erotic thriller starring Aftab Shivdasani , Celina Jaitley and Amrita Arora . The movie is a tale of love, seduction, betrayal and murder. Aftab plays a man with a heart ailment who gets involved in a very passionate physical and emotion relationship with a widow, played by Celina. Amrita plays a girl with negative shades. The main characters of the movie grapple with lust, love, mind games and manipulations as they get drawn into a complex web of emotions.

Water , on the other hand, delves into outmoded social traditions of India. The third film in Deepa Mehta 's 'Elemental Trilogy', 'Water' tells the story of three widows in the India of 1930s. Seema Biswas , Lisa Ray and child artiste Sarala play the respective roles. The film stars John Abraham as a Gandhi nationalist. 'Water' was nominated for Oscars this year in the Best Foreign Language Film category, but couldn't win the coveted statuette.

The third film to release this week is director Raman Kumar's much-delayed Sarhad Paar which stars Sanjay Dutt , Tabu and Mahima Chaudhary in leading roles. The film tells the story of a soldier who accidentally crosses the Indo-Pak border and suffers trauma and torture at the hands of terrorists. When he returns back to his home after a long gap he could no longer relate to his wife and sister. How he regains normalcy and avenges his tormenters forms the crux of the story.

Also dealing with patriotic theme is Amrit Sagar's 1971 , starring Manoj Bajpai, Ravi Kishan, Chitranjan Giri and Kumud Mishru. The film tells the story of six Indian soldiers making a daring escape from Pakistani prison.

Of the four movies, 'Red' and 'Water' are likely to draw maximum crowds. 'Sarhad Paar' suffers because of its outdated look, while '1971' has no big stars.
