Shilpa Shetty set for Australian 'Big Brother'?

Bollywood star and winner of 'Celebrity Big Brother' in the UK, Shilpa Shetty is reported to be joining the line-up for the Australian version of 'Big Brother'.

Reports are that Shilpa is due fly to Australia next month to promote her new film Metro and the show's producers are eager to get her on board.

A spokesman for Australia's Channel Ten said: "We are trying to work out just how long she can spend in the house."

Advertisement Executive producer Tim Toni said that he hoped that Shilpa would be able to "liven up" the house.

Shilpa was at the centre of controversy in the 'Celebrity Big Brother' house when viewers accused other contestants of bullying her.

More recently she caused a storm when Hollywood actor Richard Gere kissed her in public at an AIDS awareness event in New Delhi.

Shilpa has accused the media of blowing that matter "out of proportion."

"I believe that things were mis-reported, mis-represented and there is a section of the media that has been highly irresponsible and I have only them to blame for things being blown out of proportion," Shilpa said.

Gere kissed Shilpa during an AIDS awareness programme in New Delhi last week, which evoked strong protests in several cities while Shiv Sena activists stormed her film shoot in Mumbai with protestors describing the act as an attack on the country's cultural ethos.

Shilpa said she has been approached for interviews by international news networks.

"I am not going to make my country look bad. I have constantly said that I belong to a country that is extremely tolerant and this is not the face of India," Shilpa said.
