Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty , who has been at the centre of a controversy after the hug-and-kiss involving Hollywood star Richard Gere, has said a "big fuss" was created over it by some people for "political mileage".
Shilpa, in Dubai in connection with the promotion of her latest movie Metro , told a press conference on Thursday that the Gere chapter was "taken advantage of" by some people to "extract political mileage".
"I didn't hurt the sensitivity of a majority of Indians. It was just a minority of people who made a big fuss out of it," she said.
"Most of the people in India don't care about it. They are sensible enough to understand things positively," she added.
Asked whether the controversy and the race row over the Celebrity Big Brother reality show have given her international exposure, she agreed.
"But of course, I was in ‘Metro’ before I won Big Brother. Once you've become a celebrity, people want to see you go wrong, they're waiting for you to make a mistake. So they'll be looking at Metro to see how I do."
