Two films starring Amitabh Bachchan will be hitting the silver screen on the same day.
Bollywood promises an ample dose of Amitabh Bachchan this month. We have already seen the superstar in two well-made (but financially unsuccessful) films: Eklavya and Nishabd early this year.
Mr. Bachchan has been trying to avert this clash. He had requested Sanjay Gupta (producer of ‘Shootout’) to push forward the movie’s release date.
Gupta, who has enormous respect for Big B, thought over all possibilities and found that May 25 is the best release date for his movie because early in June the third movie of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series is set to hit the theatres. Dubbed Hollywood movies have become quite a rage in India. They often eat into the box-office share of Bollywood movies.
So Gupta had to convince Big B that the box office clash of ‘Shootout’ and ‘Cheeni Kum’ would not be harmful as the two films belong to entirely different genres.
‘Shootout At Lokhandwala’ is an action thriller about a real life encounter between police and gangsters in Mumbai in 1992.
‘Cheeni Kum’, on the other hand, is a lighthearted, feelgood comedy about a 60-year-old chef (Big B) who falls in love with a 34-yr-old woman ( Tabu ).
