Bipasha Basu is acting in a film based on the subject of gender confusion.
Director Sudipto Chattopadhyay’s film Pankh deals with a very pertinent issue. The movie is based on a real life case of child actor Ashish Channa who was in reality a girl but played boy roles in movies and television serials. In order to get Ashish roles in films, her mother would often pass her off as a boy. This gender confusion got to such a point that Ashish’s father had to intervene.
In ‘Pankh’, however, child actor Maraddona, a newcomer, plays a boy who is so besotted with an actress that he wants to be like her. Bipasha plays that actress.
The film’s director is eager to use Bipasha’s name for her character. But the actress does not agree with him.
Bipasha believes that if she is named Bipasha in the film, then people will begin speculating that the character is based on her.
Producer Sanjay Gupta seems to have full confidence in the directorial abilities of Chattopadhyay.
‘Pankh’ will be Bipasha’s first art-house film. Half of the movie has already been shot.
