Ramu has made it very clear that his ‘Sholay’ is not an exact remake of the 1975 movie, which is considered one of the best flicks to have come out of Hindi cinema ever.
There would be many things different in Ramu’s ‘Sholay’. One would be the character of the widow in Thakur’s house. The role is played by Sushmita Sen .
The widow in Sippy’s ‘Sholay’ was Radha, a sad and lonely woman who dressed in white and remained a silent, passive character in the story. But that will not be the case with Ramu’s ‘Sholay’.
The widow in Ramu’s movie is the black-clad Durga, not Radha. Although she doesn’t have many dialogues in the film, she is not a passive character. Rather, she seethes with muted aggression.
Sush says Durga is the quietest character she has played in her career. This is very much in contrast to Sush’s outspoken nature. So she had to muzzle herself and restrict her body movements to play the lamenting Durga.
But through stillness, the silent aggression will come through, Sush says.
Sush is paired with newcomer Prashant Raj in the film.
