Filmmakers in Bollywood have once again gotten fascinated by Bengali author Sarat Chandra Chatterjee's classic work Devdas.
Just a few days back, we reported about director Anurag Kashyap planning to make a modern-day version of 'Devdas', titled Dev. D with Abhay Deol in the lead role.
Now, Sudhir Mishra , another talented filmmaker, is thinking of making his own version of 'Devdas'.
Mishra's 'Devdas' will defy the convention. It will be a film with a strong political element. Although the basic premise of the story will remain the same, Mishra will adapt the story to look into the present day state of Indian politics.
Quite expectedly, Mishra's favourite Shiney Ahuja will play the protagonist.
The film will reportedly be produced by Pritish Nandy Communications. So far, only Shiney has been finalized in the star cast. The film's leading ladies - Paro and Chandramukhi - are yet to be finalized.
For many decades, 'Devdas' has spurred the imagination of filmmakers in Hindi film industry. Directors like P C Barua, Bimal Roy and Dilip Roy have made films on the tragic story of the bacchanalian hero. Sanjay Leela Bhansali made his Devdaas in 2002 with Shah Rukh Khan in the title role.
