Playing hockey on Astroturf while shooting for the Yashraj Films presentation Chak De India took its toll on Shah Rukh Khan .
In the film, directed by Shimit Amin , Shah Rukh plays Kabir Khan, an ex Indian hockey player who was removed from the game in his heydays without honour. Now, Kabir takes the challenge of coaching a rag-tag bunch of girls to make a hockey team with the mettle to win the world cup.

Incidentally, SRK was a fairly good hockey player in his schooldays. The superstar humbly admits that he played a lot of field hockey and was good at it.
But things have changed a great deal over the years.
Before shooting ‘Chak De India’, SRK says he thought he would be able to beat the girls in stamina and skills on the hockey field. But SRK was wrong.
While training for the film, he found that the techniques of the game have changed a great deal. On top of it, he found it physically strenuous to play on Astroturf.
“I thought I would be able to beat the girls. But they kicked my butt! They were really good and I am no good at playing field hockey,” SRK is quoted as saying by an entertainment site.
SRK added that although he gave his best, he realized that he would never be as good as the girls.
