HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD A true test of John Abraham's mettle03rd Sept 2007 15.44 IST By Nikhil Kumar Deepa Mehta’s film Luna will truly test John Abraham’s acting mettle to the core. The movie, based on the life of American environmentalist Julia Hill, has Rachel Weisz playing the female lead and John Abraham playing an environmentalist who supports her.
Luna is a huge project for John as he gets to share the screen space with the Oscar winners like Dustin Hoffman and Chris Cooper. It is learnt that Hoffman plays the chief of the Pacific Lumber Company, and Cooper plays his right hand man. John doesn’t have a marginal role in the film but has a considerable amount of footage. This makes his job all the more daunting. He would have to hold his stead against some of the Hollywood stalwarts. Deepa Mehta is confident that John will pull it through. The movie’s shooting was slated to start in summers, but Deepa requested the producers, Warner Brothers, to postpone the shooting till February 2008, as she wants to capture a particular look in Philadelphia, where the shooting is to take place. WHAT IS LUNA ABOUT? The film is based on the real life story of American environmentalist Julia Hill, who lived on a tree in California Redwood forest for 738 days to protest against the cutting of trees by Pacific Lumber Company. Hill sat on the tree, which she named Luna, from 1997 to 1999 until a resolution was reached in which the loggers agreed to preserve trees within a 3-acre buffer zone in the redwood forest.
