Manorama Six Feet Under

A dark thriller and a comedy from Bollywood this Friday

This Friday will see the release of films with very different themes. And none of these films features a big movie star.

Debutant filmmaker Navdeep Singh comes up with his promising attempt at noir (dark) genre in ‘Manorama Six Feet Under’. On the other hand, Priyadarshan continues his trend of making comedies with his latest flick ‘Dhol’.

Manorama Six Feet Under is set in a small town of Rajasthan. It stars Abhay Deol , Raima Sen , Gul Panag , Sarika and Kulbhushan Kharbanda .

The film has Abhay Deol playing a government engineer who has a penchant for writing detective stories. One day, he gets an offer to actually play a detective and spy on a local politician. Tired of the boring, small-town existence, he takes the offer. As he investigates, he discovers that nothing is what it seems to be.

The story also has a murder mystery angle.

The film’s director Navdeep Singh has studied filmmaking at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, USA. The movie was screened at Osian Festival of Asian Cinema in July in Delhi where it got good response from the audience.

If film noir is not your taste, then there is Priyadarshan’s Dhol to regale you.

The movie stars Tusshar Kapoor , Sharman Joshi , Kunal Khemu , Rajpal Yadav and Tanushree Dutta .

The quartet plays four unemployed, good-for-nothing youths who want to make it big in life in the easiest possible way. To achieve this they come across an idea: to marry a rich girl. And to their good luck, a rich girl comes to live in their neighborhood.

‘Dhol’ has the typical Priyadarshan humour in which comic situations arise out of confusion and chaos. The movie is a remake of a flop Hindi movie titled ‘Pardah Hai Pardah’.

Apart from ‘Manorama’ and ‘Dhol’ two English films will also release on Friday: ‘Sambar Salsa’ (starring Rishi Kapoor with foreign actors) and ‘Loins of Punjab Presents’ starring Ayesha Dharkar and Shabana Azmi .
