HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD At 65, Amitabh Bachchan still rules the roost in Bollywood11th Oct 2007 14.00 IST By Agencies No other actor has enjoyed such iconic status in filmdom as the mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan and today even at the age of 65, he has rewritten the rules of superstardom in the Indian film industry. Even as movie and news channels have made his birthday into a big event in recent years airing his blockbuster movies and asking viewers to SMS their 'birthday wishes' to the megastar, Mr. Bachchan himself chose to keep a low profile spending the day in the confines of 'Jalsa', his home in suburban Mumbai. 
Big B as he is fondly called, chose to take a day off from his shooting schedule. But, he went to gymnasium near his house in the morning. Fans and the media started gathering outside his residence since morning in hope that the actor would oblige his fans like every year and make an appearance. The year gone by has been a mixed year for the actor just like the movie he acted in a few years ago - Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham . The marriage of his only son Abhishek Bachchan to the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai and getting a national award for his performance in Black were the highpoints of this year. Mr. Bachchan was seen in films like Jhoom Barabar Jhoom , Eklavya Nishabd and Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag , a remake of the cult classic Sholay in which he played the role of legendary Gabbar Singh essayed by late Amjad Khan in the original. All the three films sank without a trace at the box office and Mr. Bachchan himself receiving flak for making a appearance in 'Jhoom..' in an atrocious outfit for the title song and also accepting the role of a 60 year old man falling in love with a 18 year old girl in 'Nishabd'. Besides, his problems with Income tax department and governments in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra for purchasing agriculture land by declaring himself as a farmer continued throughout the year. At present, Mr. Bachchan is shooting for Ravi Chopra 's Bhootnath and has completed the shooting of Varma's Sarkar Raj in which he stars with son Abhishek and daughter in law Ash. Besides, he has also completed the dubbing of Bhojpuri film 'Gangotri' produced by his make-up man Deepak Sawant. Happy Birthday Mr. Bachchan.
