Before offering John the lead part in the film Kashyap wanted to see if the actor could tell a bad script from a good one.
So when Kashyap met John he first narrated him the script of a movie called ‘Lapata’ (Missing). John did not like the script and told it on Anurag’s face.
Kashyap nodded and narrated to John another script. This time, it was the script of ‘No Smoking’.
John liked the script so much that he instantly said yes. But he wondered by Kashyap did not narrate ‘No Smoking’ first.
It was then Kashyap told him that he made up the script of ‘Lapata’ on his way to meet John. The director wanted to see if John had an appreciation for a good script.
John passed the test with flying colours and got the lead part in ‘No Smoking’.
The film tells the story of a chain smoker whose life is turned topsy-turvy by his addiction. The movie also stars Ayesha Takia , Paresh Rawal and Ranvir Shorey . Bipasha Basu has done a special item in the film.
