Ever wondered why unrequited love gets prominence in the films of Sanjay Leela Bhansali .
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam had a husband pining for the love of his wife even as he took upon himself to unite her with the man she loved. Devdaas , as we all know, was about the self-destruction of a man lost in love. And Bhansali’s latest movie Saawariya too brings forth a painful side of love.
Is the filmmaker obsessed with unrequited love?
In a way – yes. Because Bhansali deems unrequited love as the most powerful – a love when a person is forever in the state of longing and yet not getting what he/she longs for.
Bhansali says he draws a lot from his own personal life when he makes films. As he himself has gone through unrequited love, he portrays it in his stories as well.
“That's the only love I know, and am fascinated by. The best part of love is about being tested. If you get the person you love, it's all over...For me, it's about being in a constant state of love, of wanting,” Bhansali is quoted by a Mumbai tabloid.
Does ‘Saawariya’ also deal with that kind of love?
“You’ll have to watch the film to know it,” says Bhansali.
