The movie is a comedy with elements of romance and thrills. Mallika and Paresh Rawal play theatre artistes who act in a play called Mughal-e-Azam. There is a theatre plot that runs parallel to the film’s story.
Director Sanjay Chhel, who has himself come from theatre background, wanted Mallika to know the acting style in theatre. Actors in theatre often exaggerate their facial expressions because they don’t have the benefit of close-up camera shots.
To get Mallika acquainted with the theatre culture, Chhel reportedly took her to Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai. The actress observed the actors and absorbed the atmosphere of theatre.
‘Maan Gaye Mughal E Azam’ also has Rahul Bose playing a CBI officer. Kay Kay Menon plays a Ghazal singer.
About one third of the film has already been shot in Mumbai.
Now the team would leave for Pondicherry to shoot the next schedule.
