When Katrina Kaif rescued Akshay Kumar from fire!

The heroine played the hero’s part for a sequence in the coming Friday’s release ‘Welcome’.

Trust Akshay Kumar to go out of his way to make the audiences laugh. That is what he did for a seriously hilarious scene in director Anees Bazmee’s film Welcome (don’t miss the slideshow).

The germ of the idea came from Bazmee’s head. There is a scene in the film that shows Katrina Kaif stuck in a raging fire and Akshay goes inside to rescue her. It is stereotypical in Bollywood for a hero to rescue his heroine from fire ( Om Shanti Om a recent case in point).

But both Bazmee and Akshay decided to add their own typical humour by doing the role reversal in the scene.

So, after improvisations, the sequence turned out something like this: An eager-to-help Akshay goes bravely inside a blazing building to rescue the woman he loves. But once inside, he faints because of the heat and smoke. Thereafter, it is Katrina who lifts him on her tender shoulders, carries him out of fire and saves his live.

While any other actor would have flinched at the thought of being rescued by his heroine, Akshay was game for the scene. And he very rightly thinks that the scene would have the audiences in splits.

But the big question is: how did a delicate beauty like Katrina managed to carry the robust Akshay on her shoulders?

Kats says she did not have to actually lift Akshay because the stunt was done with the help of cables.

‘Welcome’ has Akshay Kumar playing a seedha saadha ladka whose uncle wants him to marry a girl from a good family that has never had a police record. However, Akshay falls for Katrina whose brother ( Nana Patekar ) is a dreaded gangster and on police’s most-wanted list.

The movie hits the theatres on December 21 and is expected to be a treat for comedy lovers. Akshay himself has described it as the mother of all the comedies he has done so far.
