Abhishek Bachchan too old to be young?

Though Abhishek Bachchan has been finally cast for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra 's Dilli 6 , and the film's shooting is set to begin soon, there are questions as to whether the actor is the best choice for the role.

‘Dilli 6’ supposedly requires a youthful, dynamic look from the lead hero and this was part of the hesitation on the part of the director Mehra as he went across the casting circle before finally settling on the Bachchan Junior.

Though Abhishek is one of the top actors, and at the age of 31, still relatively young, it is being said that roles of characters in their 20s may soon be a case of miscasting with him.

"Abhishek Bachchan looks older than his age...with his beard and stomach paunch he maybe more fit for middle-aged characters than a leading young man", points out a source.

Though he was said to have gained the weight for Mani Ratnam 's Guru , some insiders feel that may not hold out. "Guru was shot in middle of 2006, it is now almost 2008." comes the response.

Though ‘Guru’ in the first half of the year was a breakthrough box office hit, the subsequent films starring Abhishek progressively grossed lower.

Indeed in the recent Laaga Chunari Mein Daag , Abhishek was cast as the older brother to Kunal Kapoor even though he is actually physically younger in age to Kunal.

Mehra was said to be keen on casting Saawariya star Ranbir Kapoor for ‘Dilli 6’, however after the failure of ‘Saawariya’, he needed a bigger young star to carry the film commercially and since Hrithik Roshan was not available, he eventually settled for Abhishek.

Now it remains to be seen whether Abhishek will be able to do justice to the role or whether he looks too old to be young.
