This is not our observation, but an assertion by filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh who has worked with the three Bollywood heroines.
Ghosh made Aishwarya Rai wear a single sari for the whole of his film Raincoat . Then he de-glamourized Preity Zinta for his English film The Last Lear by giving her a role that has the dimpled damsel wearing colourful saris.
And now, Ghosh is working with Bipasha Basu , an actress of Bengali origin, in his Bengali film Shob Charitra Kolpanik. The film has Bipasha wearing many traditional Bengali saris in different scenes.
While shooting the film, Bipasha often has to change many saris in a single day. And what has impressed Ghosh is the speed at which Bipasha changes a sari.
“She’s able to do so in five minutes flat. There’s absolutely no time wasted between shots, and time is of paramount importance here,” Ghosh is quoted as saying.
In the film, Bipasha plays a woman with conflicting emotions. According to Ghosh, Bollywood has mostly concentrated on Bipasha’s sex appeal without tapping her acting potential. His film, the director asserts, will show Bipasha’s command over acting.
