2007 : Year of break-ups and new bonds!

Many Bollywood couples who had been going steady for years parted ways in year 2007. And there were others who forged a lifelong bond.

In the month of April, the then most-talked-about couple of Bollywood Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai tied the knot and became partners for life. Their “extended honeymoon” continued for months as they went together arm-in-arm from Tahiti Islands to Cannes and back to Mumbai. Ash and Abhi’s match seems made in heaven. Even months after their marriage the immense love between them is visible whenever they are together. And as the year draws to a close, tinsel town is abuzz is rumours about Aishwarya’s pregnancy, but nothing has been confirmed by the Bachchans as yet.

The biggest split of 2007 came in the second half of the year. Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur , who once seemed inseparable, called it quits after years of steady relationship, much to the shock and disbelief of their fans. The most surprising was the way the end came – with a thud rather than a bang. Shahid was shooting in Toronto, and Kareena was painting the tinsel town red with Saif Ali Khan when the rumours of their split began making headlines. Although they were parting ways, both Shahid and Kareena maintained their dignity and never indulged in blame game. No dirty linen was dragged out in the open for the public to see. And sooner than expected, Shahid had his closure and moved on. Ironically, it all happened when their most successful film together Jab We Met was scripting its own success story at the box-office.

Months before Kareena moved away from Shahid, Saif Ali Khan had put to an end his two-year long relationship with Italian beauty Rozza Catalano , the girl for whom he had walked out of his many years of marriage to actress Amrita Singh . From the start of this year, cracks had begun appearing in the live-in relationship between Saif and Rozza, but it was in March that Saif officially admitted to splitting from Rozza. Following the break-up, Rozza returned to her home in Luzern (Switzerland) but came back to Mumbai later to start her life anew.

Looking back now, it seems as if the break-ups of Saif-Roza and Kareena-Shahid were destined to happen because a new love story was waiting to be born. In the days leading to the release of ‘Jab We Met’, Kareena was spotted more and more often with Saif – riding pillion on his bike, or sitting next to him in car. Rumour mills were in overdrive, churning out tales of their romance. It was in October that Saif decided to put rumours to an end and publicly accepted dating Kareena.

Another couple that was in news for split in 2007 was Lara Dutta and Kelly Dorjee . In June came reports of rift in their eight-year-long relationship. While the real reason of the rift was not clear, it was speculated that the two lovers had had too much of each other, and that love had begun to evaporate from their relationship. In the first sign of an impending split, Kelly moved out of Lara’s apartment in Bandra and rented a new house. But surprisingly, weeks later the two were spotted having a conversation over a cup of coffee.

The year also saw a split between Yana Gupta and Aftab Shivdasani . Their affair was not very old and they did not make any attempt to hide their relationship from media. In fact, early this year they had claimed that the understanding between them was so good that Yana actually encouraged Aftab to kiss his co-star Celina Jaitley in Red . But then, the equation changed. The cracks began to appear in May and June. While the real reason of the split between them remains a mystery till date, Yana had told a tabloid back then that she takes a lot of time to know a person. She said she had been friendly with Aftab for months and after that time she felt he was not the person she would like to marry.

Kim Sharma also split from cricketer Yuvraj Singh in May this year. It was the same month when actress Isha Sharvani put to an end her relationship with pacer Zaheer Khan. While Zaheer has not found another Bollywood beauty for himself yet, Yuvraj Singh has often been spotted in the company of latest Bollywood stunner Deepika Padukone .
