Mahesh Bhatt has got an offer from Pakistan to make a film on Benazir Bhutto.
The offer has apparently come from Pakistani producer Anila Khan after the assassination of Bhutto in Rawalpindi a few days back.
Bhatt revealed to a tabloid that Anila wanted him to direct the film, but he declined the offer because he has retired from direction. However, he agreed to lend the technical and creative support to the project.
And Bhatt has laid down certain conditions. The film should have approval from Bhutto’s family, her political party (PPP) and the Pakistani government, in general.
If things fall in place, the film will be jointly made by Vishesh Films and Anila Khan’s production house under the guidance of Mahesh Bhatt who has championed the cause of creative exchanges between India and Pakistan through films. A Pakistani writer will pen the film’s script.
Bhatt revealed that Shabana Azmi has already expressed her interest to play Bhutto in the film. Bhatt feels Shabana would be a right choice because, apart from a talented actress, she has in-depth understanding of politics.
However, Mahesh does not want to make an announcement of the film as Pakistanis are still bereaving the loss of their beloved leader.
