Jab ex-lovers meet again!

For some Bollywood stars the end of a romantic relationship doesn’t mean the end of friendship.

Let us skirt the contentious question: can two friends be lovers? Going a step higher, let’s ask – can two ex-lovers be friends? The answer, if observation of Bollywood’s ex-couples is to go by, is both yes and no.

We have never seen Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai talking to each other after their break-off, but it was a sight to see Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor behaving like friends recently at an award function even though the emotional wounds of their break-up haven’t yet healed fully.

In an industry where you keep bumping into friends and foes at every step, it is impossible to avoid coming face-to-face with your ex even if you try your best not to. And when this tête-à-tête between ex-lovers does happen, some end up turning their backs to each other, while others step forward and meet and greet as if they still remain best buddies.

At Amrita Arora ’s birthday bash recently, we saw Lara Dutta came face-to-face with her ex, Kelly Dorjee . Surprisingly, the couple showed no awkwardness. They hung around, spoke with each other, shared jokes and then walked their own ways, without keeping any resentment in their hearts.

On the other hand, we saw Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon even refusing to acknowledge each other’s presence at Stardust Awards night recently, even though they were well within the distance of striking up a conversation.

And it was surprisingly the same Akshay who just a few days back bonded like a house on fire with his another ex-flame Shilpa Shetty when he bumped into her at Mumbai’s domestic airport. Not only did Akshay and Shilpa shook hands and hugged, they chatted with each other for a good long thirty minutes.

But the most exemplifying behaviour towards an ex was displayed by Amisha Patel who sportingly threw a birthday party for her recently separated boyfriend Vikram Bhatt and proved to the world that they had parted on an amicable note. The end of a relationship doesn’t mean the end of friendship – this, Amisha verily showed.

No less remarkable is it to see Shahid and Kareena handling their failed relationship with such maturity. After their break-off, the couple even shot together (a few scenes of Jab We Met ), and they have not turned away from each other whenever they come face-to-face.

Such maturity and understanding is seldom seen in many ex-lovers of Bollywood.
