In the times when Abhishek Bachchan was being written off as a dark horse by detractors, it was Mani Ratnam who turned things around for junior Bachchan by extracting a powerful performance from him in Yuva . 
Mani cast Abhi for the second time in Guru . The film also had Aishwarya Rai . It can be said without exaggeration that 'Guru' had perhaps the best performances of their career by both Abhi and Ash. So much so that Amitabh Bachchan shed his usual diplomatic stance and declared with pride that Abhishek had surpassed him with his performance in 'Guru'. Now, Abhishek may reach new milestones in acting, because he is set to work with Mani Ratnam again. Reports have it that Abhi and Ash will pair up again for Mani Ratnam's next film, which is being described as an intense love story. The film will go on the floors in the second half of this year. It will hit the theatres in 2009. Before Mani's film, Ash and Abhi will be seen together in Ram Gopal Varma's next release Sarkar Raj .
