Suddenly, filmmakers are showing keen interest in making movies on the life of Gautam Buddha. National award winning director Shyam Benegal is already working with a writer to put together a script for such a film.
And now we hear that Pan Nalin, who has directed critically acclaimed films ‘Samsara’ and ‘Valley Of Flowers’, is gearing up to make a film on lord Buddha.
Nalin is already in talks with the Mahindra and Mahindra Group which is going to make a foray into film production business soon.
Nalin wants internationally known faces to play the important roles in the film. While he has yet not zeroed in on the actor who will play prince Gautam Siddharth, he wants Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play Gautam’s wife Yashodhara, and Amitabh Bachchan to play Gautam’s over-protective father, king Sudhodhana.
According to Nalin, the two Bachchans are perfectly suited for the said roles.
However, the director has yet to figure out if the Bachchans would have spare dates and interest in his project to be part of the film.
Reportedly, the film will have a lavish budget of Rs. 75 crore.
Till now very few films have been made on Gautam Buddha. Bernardo Bertolucci’s ‘Little Buddha’ is one of the most famous of them.
