Actress Aarti Chabria finds herself at the receiving end of an editorial decision following which her role in movie Anamika has been completely chopped off.
And the irony is that Aarti played the film’s titular protagonist – a dead woman named Anamika.
The film has Dino Morea playing a widower who wants to erase the memory of his deceased wife when he marries another girl, played by Minissha Lamba . But Minissha feels haunted by the spirit of the dead woman.
Aarti had shot many portions of the film in which she plays an apparition. However, on the editing table, director Anant Mahadevan found it odd to include her character in the film.
Why?
The movie shows Dino removing all the evidence, including photographs, of his former wife. So Minissha’s character, and even the audience watching the film, had to be clueless about how the first wife looked. Giving her a face (Aarti Chabria) would have diluted all the impact of the suspense, according to director Anant Mahadevan.
Mahadevan says the decision to chop off Aarti’s role completely was taken purely for the betterment of the film.
Now, Aarti would only be seen in the film in fleeting flashes. Phew!
