'Taare Zameen Par' not to contend for IIFA awards

The 9th IIFA awards function this year would be less competitive. One of the best films of the year, Taare Zameen Par , is not contending for any award.

And the reason for this is Aamir Khan ’s firm resolve to boycott the popular award ceremonies. Reason? The supertalented actor-director feels that most of the awards shows have “no credibility”.

Despite Aamir’s boycott, ‘TZP’ was nominated for a few award functions this year. But the rules and regulations of IIFA are such that a producer who wants to get his film nominated has to file in an application. Since Aamir hasn’t applied for the nomination of TZP in any category, the film will not be part of the award function.

No doubt it almost kills the competition because now Chak De India is the only film that is likely to walk away with most awards.

Amitabh Bachchan , who is the brand ambassador of IIFA, personally spoke to Aamir to ask him to apply for a nomination. But Aamir politely turned down the request, saying it goes against his principles. Big B says he respects Aamir’s wish.

By the way, Big B hasn’t yet watched ‘TZP’. Aamir has already invited him and his family for a screening, but since Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are presently in Miami, the screening will be held when the entire Bachchan family is in town.

This year’s International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) will be held in Bangkok from June 6 to 8. It will be a three-day event.
