Though no full-length Indian feature film is competing at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Ketan Mehta’s Rang Rasiya added some Indian color to the event.
The movie, based on the story of the legendary 19th-century Indian painter Raja Ravi Verma, was promoted via a beachfront party in the French resort town.
Hosted by Deepa Sahi's Maya Movies and Aanand Mahendroo's Infinity Entertainment, the party was attended by the director of the film, Ketan Mehta , and cast members Randeep Hooda , Nandana Sen and Ferena Wazier.
In the film, Hooda plays the painter while Nandana plays his muse who used to pose for his paintings.
"He dared to paint the Gods and he was prosecuted for obscenity," Mehta is quoted as saying about the protagonist.
"Through his paintings, he told India's own stories and yet won global recognition. That should be a source of inspiration for all of us today," added actor Randeep Hooda.
Portions of the film were screened throughout the evening. A distinct Indian flavour was added to the event by Rajasthani folk musicians who enchanted the gathering with their traditional songs.
‘Rang Rasiya’ is made in two languages – Hindi and English. The English version is called ‘Colours of Passion’.
