Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan are set to team up for a film that will be India’s answer to ‘Lord of the Rings’. It’s been over a year since producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra first announced his plan of making a slick fantasy flick called Talismaan . Ad filmmaker Ram Madhvani was roped in to direct the movie. 
However, a year has passed and the film is still to go on the floors, leading to speculation that the movie has probably been shelved. But Madhvani has told a tabloid that the movie is very much on and pre-production work on it is underway. Madhvani says ‘Talismaan’ will be a magical fable with lots of special effects. Therefore, meticulous pre-production work needs to be done in story-boarding and screenplay before the shooting of the film could start. Initially, only Amitabh Bachchan was approached for the movie. But now, Abhishek and Sanjay Dutt have also been finalized for the film. Search is still on for a leading lady who will have a pivotal role in the film. Contrary to rumours, ‘Talismaan’ is not inspired from either ‘Lord of the Rings’ or ‘Harry Potter’. The movie is based on a century old novel called ‘Chandrakanta’ that was written by Babu Devaki Nandan Khatri in 1892. ‘Chandrakanta’ is basically a love story between a prince and princess of two rival kingdoms. Also part of the plot is a huge treasure which can be reached only after crossing an intricate, magical, hallucinatory maze in a fort. The antagonist of the story is a hostile king who wants the treasure and wants to end the love between the prince and princess. The shooting of ‘Talismaan’ is likely to begin early next year.
