His role of ''a basically good boy with an ambitious streak'' in his latest film Jannat has done what Emraan's last few films could not - set the cash registers jingling. 
With 'Jannat', which has Emraan playing a middle class guy who takes to cricket betting to amass riches before love for a girl makes him turn a new leaf is, rocking the box office at home and abroad. The actor suddenly finds himself being catapulted into the big league. At a time when biggies like the Yashraj Films production Tashan and Ravi Chopra 's Bhoothnath have elicited a lukewarm response from cinegoers, amid the frenzy for the IPL cricket matches, a low-key film like 'Jannat' has evoked tremendous curiosity among the audience. The stupendous success of the film - trade sources say that 'Jannat' has taken an opening which is at par with that of this year's biggest success Race and has also matched the records set by Welcome . ''Initially, I could not just believe the phenomenal response that the film seems to have generated,'' said Emraan. ''We at Vishesh films were confident about the film's script and were quite confident about its doing well. At the same time, we were also circumspect as just a few weeks ago we witnessed the mighty fall of 'Tashan'. However, the opening that the film got was much beyond our expectations. We had not expected the film to garner such a phenomenal response,'' Mahesh Bhatt said. Infact, the collections garnered by 'Jannat' is the biggest response generated by any film in our entire career.'' Both Bhatt and Emraan attribute the success of 'Jannat' to the fresh marketing impetus given to it with the marketing tie up with Percept Picture Company.
