When Bollywood stars lose their cool

They are rich and they are famous. And the price for fame they pay is constant scrutiny by media.

Bollywood stars are a fascinating lot. Adored by millions and perpetually hounded by paparazzi, they can be diplomatic, frank, forthcoming, manipulative, polite, or abusive. And it’s quite a sight to see some of them lose their cool.

If you think only the testosterone-pumped cricketers can get ‘slap’-happy on the field, don’t forget the incident early this year when the usually hilarious Govinda lost his temper without much provocation from an onlooker on the sets of Money Hai Toh Honey Hai and smacked a real tight slap on the face of the poor lad in front of the rolling cameras of media. And when the embarrassed chap left the venue without reciprocating Govinda’s gesture and filed a police complaint for assault and battery, you know what Govinda had to say to that: “Ek aur doonga”. Kaan ke neeche, his look almost said.

Anyway, coming to the more recent times, actor Akshaye Khanna seems a peeved man nowadays. And we think he has a right to be. A tabloid recently published a photo of Akshaye swigging a glass of alcoholic drink with a swagger befitting a bacchanalian disciple. And that was it. In the ensuing days, the actor’s character was virtually assassinated with reports suggesting that he is an alcoholic. One report even claimed that Akshaye is going on a vacation to join a rehab center where he will get detoxified. But the last straw was broken when a journalist in an interview asked him if he was indeed an alcoholic. In a fit of rage, Akshaye whammed the camera down and walked out. Since then, the media-hounded actor has been busy scotching the rumours and denying that he is an alcoholic.

Okay. Point taken Akshaye! Now stop brooding. Cheers!

Another similar incident reportedly happened with actress Amisha Patel while shooting a promotional interview for her film Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic with a TV channel at Yashraj Studios. The interviewer posed the actress a burning question about her alleged affair with director Kunal Kohli . In response, Amisha – who is on seventh heaven after having found love in a London-based man named Kaanav (not Kunal) – lost her cool and walked out.

And while we take sarcastic digs at these celebrities let us not forget that they are normal, mortal, erring souls like you and me. The only difference is their mistakes and faults are magnified though the ever scrutinizing and sensation-seeking eyes of media. So whenever someone like Amitabh Bachchan boos a critic, or when Kangana Ranaut allegedly manhandles her driver, the media is at charge – all guns blazing – to shoot down the high-flying partridges from their perch.

Sad but true, that’s the price of fame.
