Akshay Kumar ’s penchant for action and stunts seems to have rubbed off on his co-star Deepika as well. For while shooting the action scenes for ‘Chandni Chowk To China’, the leggy damsel insisted on doing her own stunts rather than let a body double do the risky job. 
Not only did Deepika get rid of her duplicate, she also did dangerous stunts without using the cables, much to the shock of director Nikhil Advani . “It was a novel experience for Deepika. And she sailed through the action. She worked really hard to get the posture and power in the action scenes,” Advani is quoted by a news agency. The filmmaker goes on to add that those who have seen Deepika in the romantic role in Om Shanti Om (and the soon-to-be released Bachna Ae Haseeno ) will be surprised to see a new spunky Deepika. The director admits it was Akshay’s presence that probably rubbed off on Deepika. After all it was Akshay who also made Lara Dutta learn SCUBA diving for action adventure Blue . In fact, before Advani began shooting the three-month long schedule in China, Akshay made him watch a number of martial arts films. Advani, who previously knew only about Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Jet Lee, found his knowledge of martial arts widened after watching the films. ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ is inspired from Akshay’s own life story. It tells the story of a poor guy who goes from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk to Bangkok and from there to China where he learns martial arts.
