'God Tussi Great Ho' promises fun and laughs

A loser becomes God and uses his divine power to set his world right in this Friday’s release God Tussi Great Ho .

Ding dong! Does the movie’s plot ring a bell? Yes it certainly does for all those who have seen the Jim Carrey and Morgan Freeman-starrer ‘Bruce Almighty’ of which ‘God Tussi Great Ho’ appears to be a blatant copy.

Amitabh Bachchan as the God in an all-white outfit is the mirror image of Morgan Freeman playing the same role in the same attire in ‘Bruce Almighty’. And Salman Khan does a Jim Carrey while Priyanka Chopra does a Jennifer Aniston.

Anyway, since the ‘God Tussi’ director Rumi Jaffrey claims that the film is “NOT” a copy of ‘Bruce Almighty’, let’s spare him and the film from slaughter until it releases. Let the readers make their own judgment from the film’s synopsis.

Salman Khan plays Arun, a struggler who keeps fighting one misfortune after another until one day his patience runs thin and he screams at God and accuses Him of not doing his job properly. To Arun’s utter surprise, God (Amitabh Bachchan) appears before him and grants him divine powers temporarily, challenging Arun to change the things as he deems fit.

Thereafter, Arun sets out to make his world (and that of others, too) a better place but only ends up committing one blunder after another. In the end he realizes that God’s work better be left to God.

Even though it is clear that ‘God Tussi Great Ho’ is a rip-off of ‘Bruce Almighty’, it is certain that the film would turn out immensely entertaining if it is a finely made copy. So funny was the Hollywood flick.

The self-deprecatory humour of the protagonist in the first half (when he is bombarded by one misfortune after another) could be a laugh riot. The second half when he uses his powers to settle old scores and to outshine his romantic rival ( Sohail Khan ) could be as much delightful.

It only depends upon the execution by writer Rumi Jaffrey.
