But here’s a film that promises to mix desh bhakti with comedy. Quite deceptively titled, Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam is not a retro trip into the Mughal times. Nor is it an ode to the Hindi classic Mughal-e-Azam. The movie, rather, is a comedy about a bunch of underachieving actors who decide to use their ‘talent’ for country’s good. 
The movie has Mallika Sherawat playing a bored wife of Paresh Rawal . The duo are part of a theatre troupe that keeps performing its ghisa pita play ‘Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam’ time and again to their continuously depleting audiences. Enters Rahul Bose , a secret agent who motivates the theatre group to join a mission to foil a terrorist attack. Also chums in a romantic ghazal singer – Kay Kay Menon – who is always ready to fall in love with any girl within his sight. It would take nothing less than stupendous performances from this bunch of unlikely underachievers to save the nation from a calamity. ‘Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam’ will see Mallika in the makeover of Anarkali. In fact, so fascinated did Mallika become with her character that she used to behave like Anarkali on the movie’s sets – greeting everyone with an aadaab and addressing her co-star Paresh Rawal (who plays emperor Akbar) as “Baadshah-e-Alam”. On an occasion or two Mallika even regaled the fatigued crew of the film with her Anarkali dances. In director Sanjay Chhel’s words, Mallika’s jovial presence always gave them a much-needed boost of energy whenever the crew felt sapped. But it was with Paresh Rawal that Mallika bonded most intimately – cracking jokes and playing pranks on the senior actor. Let’s hope some of their crackling chemistry shines through on the big screen as well. ‘Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam’ releases this Friday along with Ram Gopal Varma’s horror film Phoonk .
