HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD When Arjun Rampal explored the city of joy15th Sept 2008 16.00 IST By ApunKaChoice Before playing the Kolkata-based filmmaker in Rituparno Ghosh’s film The Last Lear , actor Arjun Rampal explored the city of joy. The handsome star so loved his character in the film that he decided to do some research before stepping in front of the camera. So, days before the film’s shooting was to begin in Kolkata, the actor reached the city and traveled incognito to absorb the Kolkatan vibes. 
To avoid being recognized by the crowd he was milling with, Arjun wore a bandana and dark shades. He took along his camera and traveled in trams and buses and photographed the day-to-day lives of the Kolkatans, apart from some city landmarks. Arjun even showed some of his photographs to director Rituparno Ghosh who was impressed by Arjun’s prowess behind the lens. After watching Arjun’s terrific performance in ‘The Last Lear’, it becomes clear that the actor did quite a preparation for the role. To a ‘T’ he looks like a director based in Kolkata. Moreover, with his confident performance Arjun manages to hold his place opposite a stalwart like Amitabh Bachchan . Of late, Arjun has begun to win the respect of filmmakers and critics with his remarkable growth as an actor. He showed flashes of brilliance in Om Shanti Om , bettered it in Rock On and has touched a new high with ‘The Last Lear’.
