Amitabh Bachchan hails Rahman and Pookutty

Praises have been coming from all quarters for A R Rahman and Resul Pookutty after the duo created history on Sunday evening in Los Angeles by winning the Oscar awards in the categories they were nominated for.

Among the first ones to congratulate the duo through his blog was Amitabh Bachchan, who wrote: "My warmest and heartiest congratulations to A.R. Rahman and Resul (Pookutty) for winning recognition in music and sound and to Gulzar for co-assisting Rahman in the lyric category."


Gulzar is credited for the lyrics of song 'Jai Ho' which got Rahman the Oscar for Best Song.

"International recognition for Indian film talent on one of the most well-known and popular forums - this is the happiest day for Indians and the industry," Amitabh wrote.

The superstar had earlier stoked a controversy unintentionally when he remarked on his blog that Slumdog Millionaire had become a success because it was directed by a westerner.

Ironically, the movie pays homage to Big B in a few portions that show the kid Jamaal as a big fan of the superstar. After the controversy, the superstar had spoken with director Danny Boyle over the phone and explained that he did not mean anything derogatory for the film or the director.
