Ashutosh Gowarikar and Sajid Khan in a spat

Many people find Sajid Khan humourous. Many don’t. There were certainly more of the latter at the Bandra Kurla complex on Wednesday where Sajid unleashed his no-holds-barred humour on the audiences. Truth be told, many of Sajid’s jokes bordered on mocking (if not insulting) not just guests in the audiences but also the winners of awards.

After a while, one could feel that Sajid’s humour was not working, at least for the gathering. So when Ashutosh Gowarikar came on stage (whom Sajid had mocked for making overlong films) to collect the Best Director trophy for Jodhaa Akbar , he had some strong words for the show’s host.


Ashutosh openly expressed his displeasure over the way Sajid was mocking everyone. The director said the people had come to the award function to celebrate the winners and not mock and humiliate them. When Sajid tried to interrupt, Ashutosh snapped at him and told him to ‘Shut Up!’.

Tempers flared and Sajid too said: “kisika baap bhi mujhe chup nahi kara sakta”.

Farah Khan , who also chipped in as the host, later tried to cool things down by saying that Sajid’s comments were made in good humour and were not intended to insult anyone.

Sources say the organizers are planning to edit out the spat from the show’s telecast on TV channels.
