CC2C – Deepika Padukone uses bullet-proof umbrella!

The movie has Deepika Padukone in two different roles – one with a Chinese look, and the other with an Indian look. One of these characters is a sales girl for a telemarketing channel and she uses a variety of gadgets and gizmos, some of them really exotic.

Among the gizmos she uses is a pink umbrella that she uses to shield herself from bullets. The umbrella can also be used as a parachute. In fact, there is a sequence in the film when Akshay and Deepika jump off the terrace of a building and she unfolds the umbrella and the two begin to float in the air.


Among other gadgets Deepika uses in the film are a multi language translator that translates Chinese into Hindi and a special spray that blinds people momentarily. Deepika will be seen using some of these gadgets in stunts and action scenes.

The actress has done her own stunts in the film. She underwent a rigourous training in Ju-Jitsu and rehearsed her stunts through the use of cables and wires for many weeks before shooting the film.

Not just this, she had to sit in long make-up sessions to get a Chinese look for her character.

Since Deepika is a south Indian with big eyes and dusky complexion, her stylist in the film, Mallika Bhat, had a tough task making her look Chinese. Mallika used layers of make-up to make Deepika look three shades fairer than her original complexion.

She also used eyeliner on Deepika’s face in such a way that her eyes looked tweaked like those of the Chinese.

‘Chandni Chowk To China’ has Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The movie, directed by Nikhil Advani and jointly produced by Warner Bros. and Rohan Sippy , is set for January 16 release, with special paid previews on Jan 15.
