'Dostana' song costs producer a bomb!

The enterprising producer had to make an out-of-court settlement for using one song, the copyright of which was reportedly with Pritish Nandy Communications, PNC.

Actually it thus happened that Tarun Mansukhani , the director of 'Dostana', had a spat with Karan a few years back. And at that time, Tarun signed a contract and went ahead with PNC for a film. In fact, two songs were created with the music of Vishal-Shekhar for the film. But the project never materialized.


Later, the misunderstanding between Karan and Tarun got resolved and the duo teamed up to make 'Dostana'. Karan liked one of the tracks that was originally composed for the PNC film and thought of using it for 'Dostana'.

Prior to the film's release, PNC sent a legal notice to Dharma Productions regarding this song. Karan rather opted for an out-of-court settlement and paid PNC a reported amount of Rs 3 crore.

Though the matter was between PNC and music director Vishal-Shekhar, but as a producer Karan apparently wanted to avoid any sort of faux pas before the movie's release.

After just a few shows, 'Dostana' seems to be getting good response from audiences.
