Nandana Sen – hot and sizzling!

Nandana has always been on the fringes of Bollywood. Strictly speaking, she hasn’t been part of the mainstream and has kept herself restricted to off-beat cinema with only a few exceptions.

Now, she returns with Ketan Mehta’s film Rang Rasiya in which she plays the muse of the legendary Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma (played by Randeep Hooda ). It’s a role that was turned down by many actresses because it required a lot of exposure. But Nandana was all game for it; not because she was eager to expose, but because she found the role very meaty.


And now, her conviction has gotten a thumbs-up from her dad, Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, and her uncle Lord Meghnad, who saw the film recently at London Film Festival.

“Both my dad and Lord Meghnad loved ‘Rang Rasiya’. Lord Meghnad has become a big champion of our film. He praised my performance to the skies and noticed so many nuances,” Nandana tells a news agency.

Nandana is hopeful that the film will be received well in India as well, despite the fact that it is based on a subject that is likely to raise a few hackles.

Raja Ravi Varma painted his muse Sugandha in the avatar of different Indian Goddesses. He was lambasted by the moral brigade for doing so. Though that happened a century ago, the theme of artistic freedom is still a pertinent one today.

Coincidentally, there is already a controversy brewing up over a poster that has Nandana posing as goddess Lakshmi.
