Neil Nitin Mukesh spends time behind prison bars

Neil, who plays a middle-class boy doing time in prison in director Madhur Bhandarkar 's next film Jail , decided to get a peek into the lives of the real convicts. Accompanied by Bhandarkar and writer Manoj Tyagi, Neil recently visited the Thane prison and what he saw left a deep impression on the young actor.

"It was the most life-changing day of my life. So much of what we take for granted seemed so vital and unreachable in there," Neil is quoted by a news agency.


The actor noticed that the inmates have created their own world inside the prison.

Neil observed the prisoners as they went about their daily chores and duties - cooking, washing, praying, studying, watching films, doing carpentry or making artefacts.

The actor, along with the director and writer, also ate the food cooked by inmates.

He spoke to many convicts and was deeply moved by the experience.

"There are faces and voices in there which I'll never forget," Neil told the news agency.

'Jail' will also star Mugdha Godse who made her debut in Bhandarkar's Fashion .

Interestingly, in his upcoming movie New York , too, Neil's character is arrested and tortured by cops in the US.
