Shahrukh Khan gets praise from unexpected quarter

Shyam Benegal , one of the pioneers of New Age cinema in India and director of many path-breaking movies, is an admirer of Shahrukh Khan .

The talented director even acknowledges that he wants to work with King Khan but unfortunately doesn't have a script for him. In a recent interview with a news agency, Shyam, when quizzed about Shahrukh, said, "How can I cast him? I don't have a subject that might even interest him."


However, Benegal raved about SRK's acting prowess.

"Shahrukh is a truly brilliant actor. When he comes on the screen, you hardly look anywhere else but at him - he is that kind of an actor," says Benegal.

The director who has given Indian cinema a number of good movies like 'Ankur', 'Nishant', 'Sardari Begum' and Zubeida , is planning an epic musical Chamki Chameli (inspired by George Bizet's classic Spanish opera 'Carmen') and also a movie on Gautam Buddha.

A Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner, Benegal also wants to make a documentary on Indian spy princess Noor Inayat Khan. The director even mentioned that due to economic meltdown he has to postpone his projects.

After a successful stint with commercial cinema with the semi-hit Welcome To Sajjanpur , it won't be a surprise if in the coming years Shyam pens a movie and casts Shahrukh in it. After all, he believes there is no demarcation between commercial and parallel cinema.
