When Farhan Akhtar met Robert De Niro

The primary reason why Farhan attended the opening of Atlantis, The Palm, in Dubai was he wanted to meet Robert De Niro, the Hollywood actor who had greatly influenced and inspired Farhan in his childhood with his acclaimed performances in films like ‘Taxi Driver’, ‘Raging Bull’ and ‘Godfather 2’.

At a party hosted by Shahrukh Khan after the launch of the Atlantis hotel, Farhan had his wish fulfilled. Guests from Hollywood were invited to the party and among them was De Niro. Farhan not just shook hands with De Niro, but also got a warm hug from the Hollywood stalwart.


Apparently, SRK had informed De Niro a bit about Farhan’s work as a director and actor in Bollywood. De Niro gave Farhan his contact number and asked him to send a few of his films.

“To see him so up close and personal was an awesome experience, De Niro turned out to be a thorough gentleman,” Farhan is quoted as saying in a media interview.

Farhan added that he would be sending his films to De Niro a.s.a.p.

His wish having fulfilled, Farhan is now looking forward to return to acting in Bollywood. He has put his next directorial venture Voices From The Sky on hold and is rather gearing up to act in a film to be directed by a newcomer named Vijay Lalvani.

The movie will be co-produced by Farhan and his partner Ritesh Sidhwani .
