When John Abraham read the Quran

John plays a NRI Muslim boy, Sameer, in the flick. The actor, who is half Christian and half Parsi by birth, studied the holy book Quran to prepare for the role. As reported, John did extensive research on Islam and its various aspects and also learnt about Jehad. In the movie he is mistakenly detained in US for terrorism charges because he is a Muslim.

John reportedly searched for proper translations of the verses written in Quran on the net and tried to learn the proper pronunciations of the Arabic words. Director Kabir Khan helped John prepare for the role. His character’s journey in the film is inspired by a real incident in which three innocent Muslims were detained in the US.

While portraying this character, John reportedly went into a cocoon and stopped socializing with people.


“It’s part of my larger determination to prepare myself completely for a part”, says the actor. Earlier too, he learnt the flute and Sanskrit for Water .

In fact, actor Saif Ali Khan also tried to go into the depths of The Holy Quran, while preparing for his character in Rensil D’Silva’s ‘Qurbaan’ (previously titled Jihad ) .
