As famous cricketers like Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja try to come clean from charges of ‘selling their country’, a charge that is likely to thwart their career prospects forever, Bengal’s pride Saurav Ganguly, so far clean and honorable, gets embroiled in a controversy, albeit of a different kind.

Cricketers’ closeness with the film world dates back to the days of the famous Anju Mahendru-Gary Sobers affair. Their story of a whirlwind romance followed by a quick engagement and a quicker split was food for the media for a long time.

Nawab of Pataudi, Mansur Ali Khan (Tiger) married actress Sharmila Tagore and later, Amrita Singh became the object of affection for cricketers like Kirti Azad and Ravi Shashtri, before marrying Tiger and Sharmila’s son Saif. Amrita even got engaged to Ravi Shashtri, after which, the couple suddenly broke up and went their own ways. Shashtri married the woman of his parents’ choice and Amrita was wooed and married by actor Saif Ali Khan.

There were stories linking Imran Khan with Zeenat Aman and in the second round he was linked with Moon Moon Sen. Azhar married Sangeeta Bijlani. Shilpa Shirodkar had something short and sweet with Sachin Tendulkar, the list just goes on and on. The latest buzz is that Saurav Ganguly is having a nice time with small time actress Nagma.

Saurav is happily married to Dona, an exponent of classical dance Odissi. Therefore, his involvement with an actress only shows that either the marriage is dying or Ganguly is out for some plain fun. In either case, it spells controversy in cricket again.
