Kamal Hasan managed to make his latest movie Virumaandi despite many odds that included protests from political groups and vandalism on the film’s sets.
Making Virumaandi was no less than an ordeal for Kamal. The movie earlier titled Sandhiyar was dogged with controversy from day one.
First Kamal had to change the movie’s shooting venue from Madurai to Chennai because of objections from political groups. Then he had to drop the movie’s title to Virumaandi after objections from the Sandhiyar community in south India.
But, despite all odds Kamal has managed to make his ‘labor of love’.
Interesting thing is that Virumaandi remains a ‘one man show’ with Kamal’s name appearing as the movie’s credits as leading actor, writer, director, producer and assistant choreographer. He is also one of the lyricists and has sung a few songs in the film.
If Virumaandi is successful at the theatres, Kamal plans to remake the film in Hindi. It is also the first Tamil film to be premiered in the US. It will also be released in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.
