SCOOP!! & NEWS Mammootty, Mohanlal reign supreme27th Nov 2004 18.45 IST By P. Sreekumaran Old is gold, they say. How true! Two of the veterans are proving the adage, again, in Malayalam filmdom. Their names: Mammootty and Mohanlal . The megastar duo have not faded away, belying the predictions of the prophets of doom. If anything, the twosome are going great guns. Well, their recent records prove it. Mohanlal's Mambazhakkalam and Natturajavu are doing well at the box office, attracting the family audience. Likewise, Mammootty's "Black" and Kazhcha are raking it in, too. Both continue to ride the roller-coaster of success, despite having completed a quarter century in acting. They have a number of films in the pipeline as well. In comparison, the youngsters are struggling to stay afloat. Dileep , for instance, is desperately on the lookout for a hit film, his latest flick "Kathavazheshan" having bombed at the box office. The other young actor, Prithviraj is not doing too well either. He had only one hit, "Sathyam". Since then, Prithvi has run into rough weather. The unkindest cut came when he was eased out of director Priyanandan's movie. What it all means is that when it comes to Malayalam cinema, it still boils down to Mammootty and Mohanlal. They are here to stay. Like wine, they are getting better with age.
