Rajni's 'Chandramukhi' Caught in Controversy!

It's the hottest news of Tamil film world. Understandably, it has hogged the headlines too. After all, the news concerns superstar Rajnikant 's upcoming film "Chandramukhi".

Well, the Rajni movie is embroiled in a copyright controversy, with Malayalam film director Fazil and producer-distributor, "Swargachitra" Appachan filing a complaint with the Kerala Film Federation (KFF).

Their grouse is that "Chandramukhi" is based on their film, "Manichitrathazhu", which was made in 1993.

Following receipt of the complaint, the Kerala Film Federation has warned against the distribution and exhibition of "Chandramukhi" in Kerala.

As if this was not enough, the original author of "Manichitrathazhu", Madhu Muttom, has moved the court against Fazil, Appachan and P. Vasu, who is the director of "Chandramukhi", saying that he has not been paid money for the remake rights of the film.

The buzz is that P. Vasu bought the remake rights from Appachan for a sum of Rs 10 lakh, and went on to make the film in Kannada titled "Aapthamitra". The film was a superhit.

Vasu's contention is that "Chandramukhi" is not a scene-by-scene remake of "Manichitrathazhu". The plot has been changed to make it commercially more viable, he claims.

Appachan counters this saying that Vasu had bought the remake rights only for Kannada and not for Tamil. Since the original right is still with him, he should be paid adequate compensation.

So, it seems like "Chandramukhi" is headed for a legal battle.

It may be mentioned that already, Simran has been replaced by Jyotika Sadanah as one of the heroines of the film.
