Padmapriya, Laya 'conquer' Kollywood!

Bravo, a Kannada 'invasion' of the Malayalam film industry is on in right earnest! Even as Malayalam heroines are getting busy in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films, two Kannada leading ladies are making waves in Kollywood: The beauties are Padmapriya and Laya.

Of the two, Padmapriya has had the distinction of being part of a few Malayalam hits. Debutant director Blessy's "Kazhcha" in which she co-stars with Megastar Mammootty , has been a roaring success.

What has endeared Padmapriya to the Kerala audience, apart from her acting prowess of course, is the "Malayalee" look. She would easily pass for a typical homespun Malayalee girl.

Buoyed by the success of "Kazhcha", pretty Padmapriya played the female lead in Sibi Malayil's "Amritham", too. That too went down well with the Malayalee moviegoers.

The latest buzz from Kollywood is that she will be Megastar Mohanlal's heroine in the Viji Thampi-directed "Balaraman" as well. "Balaraman", incidentally, would feature Bollywood veteran Naseeruddin Shah in a key role. Again, Padma is also playing the love interest of Mohanlal in the film "Vadakkumnathan", which is in the making.

As if all this is not enough, the brooding beauty from Kannada screen is also part of a movie in the pipeline titled "Katha Parayum Theruvu", whose director is Sunil.

Likewise, reigning Kannada star, Laya, has made her maiden Malayalam splash against "Thommante Makkal" which has Mammootty in the lead role.

Lovely Laya (in pic) has also been signed up to do a meaty role in Sibi Malayil's forthcoming movie "Alice In Wonderland", shooting for which has already begun in the picturesque locales of Ooty.

So, the federal spirit is well and truly in operation in the southern moviescape. And the beneficiaries are, of course, the discerning movie buffs in all the four southern states!
