That seems to be the resolve of Malayalam hero Suresh Gopi in the New Year. Well, to be fair to him, Gopi had to go for an image makeover. After all, nobody can go on watching a khaki-clad Suresh Gopi wielding the gun and mouthing those punchy dialogues in movie after movie. It palls after a while. 
And it did. His comeback film Bharathchandran IPS became a bumper hit mainly for one reason: It came three years after the last super cop role essayed by Suresh. So, there was a bit of freshness about it, not to forget the crisp dialogues and crisper action scenes. But his next film, ‘The Tiger’, belied expectations. It had the patina of a repeat movie. That is why it received only lukewarm reception at the box office. But the warning to Suresh Gopi was loud and clear: stop repeating yourself in super cop roles, or else... And Gopi has swung into action in no time. He has gone for a change in his forthcoming film Lanka . Of course, he would spout those fiery dialogues, but he would, for a change, romance the heroine. Can’t believe it? You have to. When it comes to sheer survival, one goes to any extent. So, in ‘Lanka’, you will see naval commander Shravan (Suresh Gopi) romancing Lankalakshmi (Mamta Mohandas) in the picture-postcard locales of Sri Lanka. Unlike his early films, Lanka will have romantic scenes and song sequences, normally not a feature of Suresh Gopi films! Not that the film, directed by AK Sajan, will be without any action scenes. But the hero is not all action and no romance. That is a major change Lanka promises to make. What remains to be seen is whether the fans will accept their action hero running round the mulberry bushes and singing sweet nothings into the ear of his heroine. Best of luck, Suresh!
