Sreekumaran The stage has been set for a confrontation between film producers and stars in Malayalam cinema with the former serving a show cause notice to megastar Mammootty . The notice has been served on Mammootty for appearing in a musical programme titled Melody on Surya TV. 
Mammootty's action is in violation of the agreement between producers and stars that bars the stars from appearing on TV programmes or stage shows, according to the film producers association. Interestingly, notice has been served only to Mammootty though several other stars like Mukesh, Siddique and Nedumudi Venu are hosting TV programmes. The film producers association has also banned actor Jagadeesh from shooting for films for appearing in a stage show in UAE. However, actress Kavya Madhavan , who also appeared in the same show, has been spared. The association's action has escalated the tension between stars and producers. Mollywood is watching with bated breath for the next act in the 'Mammootty episode.'
